Some frequently asked questions on healing.
The answers given to the following questions are of necessity general, and may not apply in all situations. The questions and answers are intended as a guide only and not as a replacement of literature that may be available, or advice that may be appropriate to particular circumstances. A veterinary surgeon must always be consulted before an animal is brough to a healer for healing, and the veterinary surgeon must be content for the animal to receive healing.
What is spiritual and or reiki healing?
Different healers will see, and explain, healing in different ways. I see healing as a method of working with, and through, love, by opening the heart and channeling love through. It is a case of connecting to and working with that universal love that is around, and available, to all of us. No tools are needed, it is not mysterious. It is completely natural, safe and powerful. Having said that, for those who are interested in exploring spiritual healing, it is best to so explore under the guise of a reputable organisation eg. The Healing Trust (formerly the National Federation of Spiritual Healers).
How does healing work?
Healing works at all levels, that is to say with mind, body and spirit (yes, animals do have souls). The energy is taken up by the body and goes to where it is needed. Healing works gently, but powerfully to bring the body into balance.
How did you discover that you had "healing hands"?
I have devoted a considerable part of my life to spiritual enquiry, this being a fascination, and passion for me. As a child many phenomena that could not be readily explained occurred around me. From a very young age people with illnesses, or difficulties, gravitated towards me and felt better after spending time with me, and/or talking with me. I have worked with animals from a very young age owing to a natural affinity that I have with them.
Can everybody work with healing?
Yes. But just as everyone can make a sound on the piano, not everyone will be able to play the piano to such a level as to fill The Royal Albert Hall with people coming to listen to them. Healing takes place all around us all of the time - the mother who picks up the child who has fallen over and hugs him or her; the nurse who spends time talking with an upset patient; the person who gives a smile and a welcoming word, the person who genty pats an injured dog.
Does healing cure illnesses in animals?
I have witnessed quite remarkable results from healing, although no claim can be made to this effect. Healing can only bring benefit, never harm.
Can healing help with all illnesses and all animals?
Yes.
What evidence is there of the effectiveness of healing?
At the moment this is largely anecdotal, although experiments have been carried out that show that those that have received healing recover more quickly, and more completely, than those who have not.
What can my pet or animal expect to experience at a healing session?
It is easier to understand this from the perspecitive of what a persion would experience which would be an explanation from the healer as to the process, how he or she works, the timing of the session, any financial details. The general feeling, for a person, is one of deep relaxation, and the feeling of heat, cold and or a tingling sensation. In generals animals seem to become relaxed during healing.
How can healing help an animal who will not have any concept of religion or faith?
Healing has nothing to do with religion or belief. The energy is channeled by the healer to the animal, and promotes a healing response. Animals instinctively know what might be of benefit and will accept the healing for as long as they feel it is needed.
If healing can do all the things that you say why is it not embraced wholeheartedly within the veterinary medical system?
It is to the extent that hands on healing is permitted, by law, if an animal has been seen by a veterinary surgeon and the veterinary surgeon is content for the animal to receive healing. Only a veterinary surgeon can diagnose or treat animals.
How do I go about finding a healer for my animal?
Get in touch with a reputable healing organisation, eg The Healing Trust who will put you in touch with registered healers in your area that work with animals.
How do I discover whether I can work with healing?
Many reputable healing organisations run training courses and programmes at central venues, and throughout the country. Get in touch with any such organisation that seems appropriate for you. Once qualified you can then work with a healer who works with animals or go on an animal healing course.
Is distant healing effective for an animal?
Yes, distant healing is just as effective as hands on healing.
Is reiki more effective than spiritual healing?
Both Reiki and spiritual healing are effective, as are other forms of energy work eg. acupuncture, homeopathy, etc. The main difference between reiki and spiritual healing is that reiki works with empowerment through attunement through a master and working with symbols, whereas in spiritual healing the healer is working direct with the source of love. In my view both forms of healing are working with love, but the description of the access is different.
I can heal so why should I have anything to do with any recognized healing organisation?
It is true that some people are born with a "healing gift". As I see it going on training courses does not necessarily teach one how to heal, but it gives people the opportunity to learn to practice healing within a safe framework, and (very importantly) how to protect themselves. Belonging to an organisation also gives access to other healers, and support for issues that arise, both personally and professionally (although each individual has personal responsibility). The public are also entitled to expect health care professionals and those that work with animals to work to professional standards and to carry appropriate insurance, etc, and which are matters undertaken by The Healing Trust and other organisations that partake in UK Healers.
In working as a healer do you take the illnesses of the animal you are working with?
No. In channeling love the healer is passing that love through to the animal, and as such should not be taking on board any of the difficult areas. Talk is had on questions of protection which the majority of spiritual healers will embrace on a regular basis, and which is one of the things worked through on training courses.
Do you get depleted after giving healing?
No, on the contrary, working with healing is replenishing. The energy of the healer is not being used at all, and in channeling love, that love also remains with the healer.
How do animals respond to healing?
Animals are very receptive to healing, and will normally lie, stand or remain, very still whilst receiving healing. Remarkable results have been reported by the owners of animals who have received healing. Animals do not have the pre-conceptions that humans have with regard to energy work, they instinctively know what is beneficial for them.
